“Flamenco” will appear as the main artwork, for the promotion of Ainadamar, from Opera Vista, in Houston TX, for November 2012.
Ainadamar: Ainadamar means “Fountain of Blood” in Arabic, and tells the story of Spanish poet and playwright Frederico Garcia Lorca, and his death in 1936 at the hands of the Fascist Government at the end of the Spanish Civil War. The story is told through a series of flashbacks by actress Margarita Xirgu, his muse and long-time friend. Ainadamar is an opera about the moral duty of the artist, the pursuit of freedom, and martyrdom.
Opera Vista: Founded in 2006, Opera Vista is Houston’s premiere contemporary opera company. Over its six year history, its mission has been promoting contemporary opera by living composers and helping build new audiences for opera.
